PRE-READING STRATEGIES

1. Prepare the text, a paper and a pen.



2. Infer what the text is all about by checking its title. Ponder the following questions after:

i. What is the text all about?
ii. What is the author's purpose of the text?
iii. What is the main idea of the author's argument?
iv. What do I already know? What do I want to know?

v. Who are the audience of the text?
vi. What is the topic's relevance?








DURING READING STRATEGIES

1. Highlight significant sentences.



2. Annotate.

i. Add Notes on Text Margin





ii. Add Notes on Page Margin



iii. Take note about the reliability of the text.



iv. Comment on Author's Biases.



3. Underline essential phrases and encircle significant keywords.


4. Find the limit of the argument.


5. Be aware of context clues.


6. Get the main idea.


7. Find evidences supporting the author's claim.




AFTER READING STRATEGIES

1. Make an outline of the text.


2. Summarize the whole text.


3. Add recommendation about how the text could be improved.


4. Add more questions that you are confused about.


5. Make a concept map or graphic organizer about the text.


6. Add your findings.


7. Conclude and Reflect about your Interpretation.


8. Make use of your Newly Discovered Information


9. Review Annotations.
