Day 5: Reflection

I thought that summarizing and paraphrasing are same but they are not. Summary is about shortening a text which highlights the main idea, purpose and message of the original text. In contrast, paraphrasing doesn't shorten the original text but renew it in a form of still obtaining its message. The words of the text are the ones that would only be renewed in terms of paraphrasing. I also thought that in doing direct quoting, you only quote a text and it is okay if you won't use reporting verbs but the thing is opposite. If you direct quote, you must cite your source as of where the quote came from by using words such as: 'said', 'reported', 'concluded', 'added' and such.

I learned the main differences between summarizing, paraphrasing and direct quoting. It is important to know their differences because these three have three different special purpose or objective dined for viewers.
